Iran to ask for difference on frozen assets if lawyers confirm right

Tehran, IRNA – Iran's deputy president for legal affairs has announced that Iran will ask for the difference of its assets previously held by a South Korean bank, which have recently been released following a prisoner swap deal between Tehran and Washington.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the cabinet session in Tehran on Wednesday, Mohammad Dehqan told reporters that Iran will request a difference if international lawyers and experts affirm the country’s right to do so.

Iran believes that South Korea should pay the difference of the Iranian frozen assets because the worth of the frozen assets was $7 billion at the time of blocking, but due to a drop in the value of the South Korean currency, only $6 billion was released.

In a statement, the Islamic Republic of Iran expressed gratitude towards the government of Qatar for their significant role in facilitating the transfer of these assets and exchanging the prisoners.
